information - FAQ

What Is RallyCross?
See our "What is RallyCross?" webpage.
Do I need a special driver license or SCCA license to participate?
Just a valid state driver's license is required.
Can any vehicle be used?
A RallyCross event is open to any fixed roof production based passenger vehicle that passes a safety inspection. However, if the Safety Steward determines that a vehicle cannot readily negotiate the course, it may be excluded. SUVs and trucks are required to have full roll cages and must be pre-approved by the Safety Steward. Vehicles with bolted-on hardtops and fixed roll bars must also be pre-approved by the Safety Steward.
Can multiple drivers use the same car?
Sharing a car is commonplace. We normally run 2 heats, and 2 people per heat would be possible for a total of 4 drivers per car if you desired to do so.
Do I need numbers for my car?
You should probably bring something to mark the car yourself. Masking tape, shoe polish, magnetic numbers, or whatever. If you forget, there is usually somebody that has extra.
What are the courses like?
Our courses are pretty smooth and safe and generally last around 40 to 60 seconds. Occasionally there is a piece of the course that requires the driver to strike a balance between speed and mechanical sympathy when we cannot work around spots like that.
Do I need any special equipment?
A skidplate and/or rear diff protector might not be a bad idea, but it shouldn't be considered necessary. An air tank or portable compressor should also be on the list of items to bring to pump up your tires about +5 PSI over the recommended limit so they do not roll off of the wheel on accident.
See also the check list at the bottom of this page.
How much does it cost?
RallyCross events cost $30 for members and non-members alike. A SCCA weekend membership fee of $5 is also required for drivers who do not have a yearly SCCA membership license. Spectators or passengers are not required to pay an entry fee.
Where can I read about the official RallyCross rules?
The National SCCA RallyCross rules can be found at http://cms.scca.com/documents/Rally%20Rules/2009rxr.pdf.
What kind of helmet do I need?
Snell 95 “SA” or “M” labeled helmets are approved for use. This is a minimum standard for use in RallyCross, other approved helmets are:
British Standards: BS 6658-85 type A/FR, including all amendments.
SFI Foundation, Inc.: SFI Foundation, Inc.: SFI Spec 31.1.
If you do not have a helmet, many people bring extras or you can always borrow one from a fellow competitor. The region also has 3 loaner helmets available for use.
